Eli Stalzer - Notables

In the Press

A solid player on a team of superstars, Stalzer is the glue that holds together these Monarchs. Stalzer, a 6-3 senior guard, has excellent ball-handling skills, is a good spot-up shooter from 3-point land, and he might be the best defensive player at Mater Dei. You don't win without a sturdy role player like Stalzer.

Scouts and coaches alike are not going to find a steadier prospect than 6-3, 185 pound senior Eli Stalzer (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei). His jump shot is consistently on the mark and he has become more affective off the dribble.

Senior guard Eli Stalzer won't be among the team's leading scorers, but he is the type of player who is the glue that holds it all together.

Stalzer is a strong wing-type with a smooth jump shot that extends out to the 3-point line. He moves well without the ball and is an astute passer. He can finish above the rim in transition and he gets great lift on his shot. In addition, he rebounds well.

MD's best player was Eli Stalzer. He scored 16 and played outstanding defense on Centennial's Dominique Dunning, a New Mexico signee who was 3 for 11 from the field including 0 for 4 on 3-point attempts. Stalzer stayed the most mentally-together, too, when Centennial made its second-half run.

Stalzer scored on a layup - then scored on a drive down the middle and a nice underhand scoop. Then Stalzer scored again on a rebound and muscle layin and he was fouled and converted the free throw to give Mater Dei a 16-2 lead. Stalzer was already in double digits with 10 points in just over 3 minutes for the fastest start of his career.

Stalzer then thrilled the Mater Dei fans when he looped in a tying three-pointer from the left wing and it was 52 all with 3:50 to play. Mater Dei took the lead on a brilliant play, as Stalzer stole the ball and took off on a fast break with Strawberry in the other lane. Stalzer made a behind the back pass to Strawberry for the layup and you could hang a star on that one as it put Mater Dei back in front for the first time in the 4th quarter at the 3:29 mark.

Eli Stalzer was the only other Monarch in double figures and he had 18 points on 7-11 from the field including 2 three pointers.

Mater Dei has their own freshman off the bench who gets some tick. Eli Stalzer is his name, and he's a confident, 6-1 guard with a decent frame and isn't shy about putting that thing up. Nice-looking stroke.
